Digital Civic Spaces in Insecure Contexts
As activists and civil society organisations (CSOs) increasingly rely on digital tools and social media to organize, collaborate, and mobilize, these platforms also expose them to growing risks. While the internet has made global solidarity-building and communication faster and more accessible, it has also introduced new vulnerabilities, from surveillance to sophisticated cyber-attacks.
The workshop introduces participants to the most pressing challenges created by technologies, the basics of preventive digital safety and risk awareness measures, which they can apply to their own context. It also provides the main principles and criteria for assessing and deciding what digital tools to choose based on specific individual or organisational situations and needs.
The workshop is conducted by Tactical Tech, an international non-profit organisation, that conducts research on the intersection of technology and society and develops interventions, resources and tools that confront conventional narratives and provoke critical thinking about technology impacts.
